Document category

# W-2, 1099 and 1098 information-return documents

Find wage, compensation, interest, tuition and other information statements, with recipient-copy and filing guidance.

**Choose by the task**

Information returns report particular payments or transactions. Choose the form from the payment category and issuer’s records, then separately review recipient furnishing, federal filing and any state obligations.

## The category matters more than the familiar number

Wages, service compensation, rent, interest, dividends, retirement distributions and tuition are different reporting jobs. “1099” is a family name rather than a single interchangeable form. Use the detailed document pages to identify each form’s records and limitations.

## Prepare from issuer records

Issuers need reconciled payment or transaction records and correct payer/recipient identities. Recipients who need a replacement for an employer, bank, school or government statement should contact that issuer. Typing a replacement PDF does not authenticate the original transaction.

## Review copies and submission separately

The PDF’s copy label explains its intended use. Formz’s 1099-NEC output includes recipient Copy B and Copy 2. A recipient copy is not an agency submission or acknowledgment. Use the applicable filing instructions and permitted method separately.
