How to use gross pay

  1. Choose hourly earnings or annual salary.
  2. Enter actual hours and rate, or annual salary and the selected pay frequency.
  3. Add separately stated extra earnings or a signed correction.
  4. Review the gross result and save the breakdown.

Calculate hourly gross earnings

For a simple straight-time period, 37.5 hours at $24 earns $900 before deductions. Adding a $100 earnings adjustment gives $1,000 gross. An hourly calculation does not automatically decide which hours qualify for an overtime premium.

Use the overtime calculator when you need to separate regular and overtime earnings. This tool keeps extra earnings explicit so a bonus or correction is included once rather than hidden in both the rate and an added amount.

Earnings itemCalculationAmount
Straight-time earnings37.5 × $24$900.00
Extra earningsEntered separately$100.00
Total gross$900 + $100$1,000.00

Estimate salary per pay period

Dividing a $52,000 annual salary by 26 payments gives $2,000 per payment. Dividing it by 24 gives about $2,166.67. The frequency selector makes that assumption visible. Your actual payroll can use a different treatment for partial periods or years with an extra payday.

Use the payroll calendar to count your scheduled paydays. Do not assume a calendar count alone determines an employer’s salary allocation policy.

Gross pay is different from net pay

Net pay subtracts withholding, benefits and other applicable deductions from gross. This calculator stops at the gross earnings amount. It does not estimate federal or state withholding, payroll deductions or the amount deposited.

Compare the result to the gross line for the same pay period on your payroll statement. A negative correction must not make total gross earnings negative; review the records when the adjustment exceeds the calculated earnings.

Common questions

Does gross pay include taxes?

Gross pay is the amount before taxes and other deductions are subtracted. The calculator does not estimate take-home pay.

How much is $52,000 a year biweekly?

Using an explicitly selected 26-payment assumption, $52,000 ÷ 26 is $2,000 gross per payment. Confirm the actual salary allocation with the employer.

Does this tool automatically decide which hours are overtime?

No. Enter regular and overtime hours separately and choose the applicable multiplier. The overtime calculator can split one workweek at a threshold you choose; neither tool determines eligibility.
