How to use salary ↔ hourly

  1. Choose salary-to-hourly or hourly-to-salary conversion.
  2. Enter the annual gross salary or hourly rate.
  3. Set your assumed hours per week and paid weeks per year.
  4. Compare the equivalents and copy, save or print the assumptions with the result.

Convert annual salary to an hourly equivalent

Divide the annual gross amount by the total assumed paid hours. Forty hours per week for 52 weeks is 2,080 hours; $52,000 divided by 2,080 is $25. If you instead use 30 hours for 52 weeks, the same annual amount has an hourly equivalent of about $33.33.

This is a comparison rate, not a decision about an employee’s legal classification or actual overtime entitlement. A salary amount alone does not establish an exemption.

Annual grossWeekly hoursPaid weeksHourly equivalent
$52,0004052$25.00
$52,0003052$33.33
$52,0004050$26.00

Convert hourly pay to an annual amount

Multiply the hourly rate by weekly hours and paid weeks. At $25 per hour, 40 hours per week and 52 paid weeks, the annual equivalent is $52,000. At 50 paid weeks it is $50,000. Unpaid time off changes the assumption, while separately paid bonuses are outside this simple conversion.

Weekly, monthly and per-payment figures are gross equivalents derived from the same scenario. A monthly average is annual gross divided by 12; it is not a prediction of the exact cash received during each calendar month.

Compare offers using the same assumptions

Use the same weekly hours and paid-week assumptions when comparing two offers. Keep benefits, overtime premiums, commissions and unpaid leave separate unless you have confirmed amounts to add. A number that looks precise can still rest on an uncertain schedule.

Save the assumptions with the result so someone reviewing it can repeat the arithmetic. This tool does not subtract taxes or turn a projected salary into a payroll record.

Common questions

How many hours is a 40-hour week over a year?

Using 52 paid weeks, it is 2,080 hours. Fewer paid weeks or a different weekly schedule changes the total; both inputs are editable.

What is $25 an hour annually?

With 40 hours per week and 52 paid weeks, $25 × 40 × 52 is $52,000 gross per year. The amount changes with hours, unpaid weeks or additional earnings.

Is the monthly amount my take-home pay?

No. It is an average gross equivalent before taxes and deductions. It also does not predict the exact payment dates or monthly deposits.
